SEOUL, Sept. 21 (Yonhap) -- Soyeon, leader of K-pop girl group i-dle, has topped major South Korean music charts with a song about quitting work that has struck a chord with office workers and other listeners.
Her solo track "I'm Gonna Toesa (feat. Kian84)" ranked first on Melon's coveted Top 100 songs chart as of 10 a.m. Monday. It also topped the real-time charts of Genie, Vibe, Flo and Bugs. The Korean word "toesa" means quitting a job.
The song is the lead track of Soyeon's first full-length solo album, "What a Wonderful Life," released Sept. 7. It combines a band-led sound with blunt lyrics about resigning from work. The track also features narration by Kian84, a cartoonist and television personality.
Soyeon made her solo debut with the EP "Windy" in July 2021 before returning with her first solo studio album.
"I'm grateful to everyone who has shown love for my music, and also to Neverland," Soyeon said, referring to the fandom of i-dle. "I will continue to make music that serves as a small breath of fresh air in many people's lives."
