SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's private, self-regulatory organization for the internet and digital content said Wednesday it has deliberated a total of 27 cases suspected of false or manipulated information, but none were subject to deletion.
The Korea Internet Self-Governance Organization (KISO) announced its self-regulatory review results at a press conference, the first time revealing such information, following the revision to the Network Act, which came into effect starting July 7.
The legislative upgrade aims to formally define false and manipulated information and introduce stricter penalties for such information, while forcing large online platforms to moderate such content.

Of the 27 cases registered with KISO for deliberation, 23 were reviewed, and the organization deemed none were determined false or manipulated information.
By type, 70 percent, or 19 cases, were promotional or informational posts of a service or product, such as restaurant reviews or discount information, KISO said.
The rest were posts containing arguments on academic or religious topics, posts uploaded for entertainment purposes, and content involving defamation or disputes, the organization added.
KISO said its deliberation committee took into consideration the core message of the posts and their actual impact on users' perception of facts, when deciding whether the posts contain false or manipulated information.
It also excluded posts containing subjective opinions or contentious issues, such as religious topics, the regulatory agency added.
